Council Seeking Eastern Kings Community Input on Travel Trailer Rules

Topic:
RMEK Council is seeking feedback from its residents, for “Travel Trailer – Seasonal Usage” within the municipal boundaries of Eastern Kings.
The current travel trailer seasonal usage is defined in our municipal Development Bylaw #2023-01 and under the Provincial Planning Act Subdivision & Development Regulations (which are the minimum requirements to be met).
RMEK’s Bylaw paraphrased:
2.5.1(i) You must apply for a permit to locate a travel trailer on any lot.
6.10.2 A travel trailer may be used as a temporary dwelling in preparation for the construction of a permanent dwelling, and this also requires a temporary permit.
Provincial Planning Act & Regulations – Section 45 Travel Trailer
45.1 “No person shall place a travel trailer as the main or accessory use on any lot or parcel of land without first obtaining a development permit, other than in a travel trailer park where utility services are provided.”
45.2 “A permit issued in accordance with subsection (1) shall be valid for a period of not more than 120 days, and shall not be renewed.”
45.3 “A travel trailer placed in accordance with this section shall be removed from the lot or parcel of land immediately following expiry of the development permit.”
Resident Feedback Questions:
- Should travel trailers be allowed on empty lots or parcels of land that have no water or sewage hookups?
- Should permits be required for travel trailers that are visiting family and friends that are parked in their yards?
- Do you feel current travel trailer usage rules, either RMEK or the Province, are appropriate for Eastern Kings?
