About
The Rural Municipality of Eastern Kings is the most easterly municipality in Prince Edward Island, occupying the tip of the Island where the Gulf of St. Lawrence meets the Northumberland Strait. The municipality was incorporated in 1974 and is home to approximately 700 permanent residents, a number that grows considerably each summer as seasonal residents return to their cottages and homes along the coast. The area stretches from Red Point in the south to East Point and along the north shore to Bull Creek Road, taking in farmland, fishing harbours, beaches, campgrounds, and some of the most striking coastal scenery on the Island. The East Point Lighthouse, built in 1867, stands at the island’s northeastern tip and remains one of the most visited landmarks in the region.

Eastern Kings is governed under the Prince Edward Island Municipal Government Act by an elected Mayor and six Councillors. Council is responsible for municipal planning, emergency management, fire protection, and the general oversight of services that support the daily life of residents. The municipality contracts fire protection services from the Eastern Kings Fire Department and employs a Chief Administrative Officer who manages day-to-day operations from the municipal office at 85 Munns Road in Kingsboro. A Development Officer is also available to assist residents and landowners with development permits, subdivision applications, and planning enquiries. Council meets on the second Tuesday of each month, and all residents are welcome to attend.
Eastern Kings is a community that takes quiet pride in where it is. The red cliffs, singing sands at Basin Head, the harbour at North Lake, and the open farmland rolling toward the water all shapes the character of the place as much as the people who live here. The municipality won the 2024 Community Spirit People’s Choice Award, a recognition that reflects the genuine sense of community that runs through Eastern Kings. Whether you are a year-round resident, a returning seasonal neighbour, or a first-time visitor, we are sure Eastern Kings will be unforgettable. If you have questions or feedback, the Municipal Office is always happy to hear from you.
